Yes, that statue is doing what you think it’s doing. The educated know that Brussels, Belgium is the center of the European Union. The slightly irreverent (which would include myself), know that Brussels is the location of the famed Manneken Pis Statue.
I’m a sucker for kitsch. If you have a landmark in your hometown that is well-known, tacky and very touristy, chances are you’ll find me there when I’m in town. Yes I do go visit the more “cultured” attractions a city has to offer, but there is something very fun about seeing, in this case, Jerome Duquesnoy (the name of the statue) taking a leak for travelers from around the globe.
Non-stop flights are the best. But sometimes one has to make a layover in order to get to their final destination. Last week I found myself at Denver International Airport, DEN. With the few spare minutes I had, I made a video of some of the things I discovered at the airport. You’ll notice I’m sporting my new Cowboy Hat. I’ll tell you more about that in a future post.
Until then, enjoy this brief video from the Denver Airport. I’ll see you out there…
What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever seen at an airport? Leave your comment below.
I’ve been on the road for 3 weeks now with 2 more to go. Today I’m leaving for Montreal and Toronto. I was only home for 36 hours so it may be a week or so before I can post some of my adventures in Calgary. In the short time I was in Orlando I had to unpack, do laundry, repack and try to relax and recuperate for the week ahead. Such is the life of the traveler.
Like before, this most recent trip was spectacular. Some of my highlights include…
I’m going to show you a menu that I ate from last March. Tell me what you think?
Where on earth did I find something like this…?
Singapore.
I was there on business and my host offered to take me out to the Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant at the Singapore Marriott Hotel. I just about had a heart attack when I saw this menu (frequent readers will know about my challenges in eating new foods.)
With an option of going hungry or being polite and gracious, I chose the latter.
Strawberry Shortcake is the plate-du-jour. Most locations serve it pre-made with your choice of biscuit or cake (have the cake). But the most popular spot (and the place I missed), was the create-your-own strawberry shortcake. For the suggested donation of $3.50, it’s a great festival treat. The lines are long so bring your patience.
This is a wonderful time of year in Central Florida. The weather starts to warm up, the days get longer and the strawberries are in season.
Just an hour’s drive from Orlando is the town of Plant City, Florida. What you may not know, is Plant City is home to strawberries. While oranges are most often associated with the Sunshine State (in fact I’ve written about them before here), strawberries are another huge crop in the Central Florida Corridor.
I’m currently in Vancouver, Canada. Home of the 2010 Winter Olympics. It turns out that the hotel I’m staying at is quite far from the city, making a trip to downtown unlikely. Nonetheless, I was able to find an adventure today of Olympic proportions…
When mom heard I was off to Vancouver, she made one request; “buy me a pair of Olympic Red Mittens”.
I’m officially tired of winter. I live in Orlando, Florida; The Sunshine State. The state surrounded by beaches on three sides. I should have been to those beaches several times by now.
I haven’t been once.
Mother Nature gave us a bit of a reprieve this past weekend with a tease of warm weather. Many Floridians (including myself), took advantage of it by going to the 2010 Plant City Florida Strawberry Festival. I should hopefully have those posts published in the next few days.
But now I’m returning to the cold weather of Canada for week 3 of my 5 week adventure through the country.
Quick, get out a map. Can you find the easternmost point in North America? Go ahead, stop reading and find it.
Back?
Were you able to locate it?
On my trip to St. John’s, Newfoundland in Canada I was told that Cape Spear is the easternmost point on the continent of North America. It was about a 20 minute drive from my hotel and I didn’t have a rental car! It would have been a shame to come this far and not make a trip out there. Fortunately, my host graciously offered to drive us to the cape. Watch this YouTube video to see what I found…
“What’s the one place I should see?” is the question I always ask when arriving in a new destination. In many of the trips I take I only have time to see or do one activity. So I want to be sure I see the main attraction. This question is often asked to the person at the rental car counter that assists me, the taxi driver that drives me, the server that waits on me and/ or the front desk person who checks me in to the hotel. I like to ask this question to several people because A) I get a variety of opinions and B) the destination that comes up most often is probably the place to visit.
