Hey Adventurers,
You may have noticed a reduction in the frequency of posts around here lately – but I’m sure you know the reason why. At the time that I’m writing this post, there are just about 17 hours left to vote in the Ultimate Thailand Explorers Competition. We currently maintain the lead in our chosen city, Pattaya, but anything can happen in.
We remain focused on promoting our efforts and obviously some of our recent efforts have paid off. If you haven’t read how we do it, you can check it out here. We’ve spent the last few days heavily promoting our efforts on Facebook. We’ve reached out to groups, pages and individuals with a passion for travel. With all this work, I’ve elected to hold off on writing new blog posts on my travels throughout Africa. We’ve been busy rallying votes.
We are very proud to have a loyal Twitter following that has been retweeting our messages on a daily (and sometimes hourly) basis. I don’t quite know what the word for it is, but it’s incredibly cool that people we don’t even know, that we’ve never met, are so passionate for us, that they’ll go through great lengths to help us win. Of the 7 passionate folks on twitter I’m referring to, they have in total, 9,747 followers. Nearly 10,000 people are aware of our efforts (although there may be some overlap, but who knows). I can’t comprehend a number like that. I’m just a little guy with a little internet site that wants to travel to Thailand.
When I told my mom that we have people in Bangkok and all over the world voting for us she said, “how’d they find you?”. The truth is I don’t really know how they found us, but they did, and they are voting. I just returned to work yesterday after my absence in South Africa. I was surprised that many of my colleagues have been voting regularly. I’m very fortunate to work at place that has such wonderful people. And I can’t forget our family and friends. My Mom, dad, brother… Brian’s Sister, Mom and all of our friends have shared our video daily on Facebook and e-mailed, called and texted everyone they could think of. We’ve also been successful in getting published in “Traditional Media”.
We’ve bounced around all over the scoreboard, but our efforts have paid off and we are now in 1st place. Brian and I have done everything in this contest to work with integrity. I don’t think there is any other team in the top 25 that has put in as much effort as we have. We have created more YouTube videos than anyone else. We’ve used Twitter in a very strategic way to connect with individuals who are well connected and while we started very late in the game, we’ve looked at using Facebook more effectively. Our promotional messages are regular and constant. And of course this website has been a great tool too. We are out workin’ em the good ‘ole fashion way; Hard work and discipline.
So getting back to my original statement, our focus the past few weeks has been on everything Thailand. I’ve got stunning photos of South Africa to share with you and some amazing videos to edit and post. You really will enjoy these tales of adventure. I’ll get to them at some point, but I’m not sure when. If we make it to Thailand, it might be as late as January before I can share them with you as we’ll be working on Thailand non-stop from now until December.
With one night left, anything is possible. But to all of you reading this post, a great big heartfelt THANK YOU for your votes. Your time spent voting, watching the YouTube videos, promoting our tweets and sharing on Facebook is greatly appreciated. I hope you are enjoying living this adventure alongside me. It’s a great ride!
