Question: Can you guess which world city this is…
Answer: It’s Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Now I’m sure the first thing you’re thinking is, “where?” “what?” “who cares?” “that picture shows nothing” And sometimes that’s the reality of travel.
I’ve been to South America. I have a Brazilian passport stamp to prove it. But in many ways I haven’t been to Brazil.
On a business trip to Brazil, I flew into Sao Paulo and immediately connected to Porto Alegre, in the southern part of the country. We immediately proceeded to the hotel where I checked-in before having dinner and going to bed. Day 2 was a full-day of work, dinner at night followed by my departure early on day 3.
What did I see of Brazil? The photo above.
What does a hotel in Brazil look like? Like a hotel in the United States.
No matter where you travel in the world, a hotel, is a hotel, is a hotel. I haven’t seen many hotels standout. They are pretty uniform, which makes learning about your chosen city hard.
It’s a bummer when you travel so far from home, visiting a new country for the first time, and miss out on exploring it. I did have a nice dinner, but I left feeling like I missed Brazil. But sometimes business travel is like that; something to look forward to for next time while on leisure.
Where have you been, that you really haven’t been? How did you make the best of the situation? Share by commenting.
I’ll see you out there…! Hopefully for a longer stay than just in and out.
