My Favorite Airport in the World: PHW – Phalaborwa

This week I’m in Limpopo Province. It’s a wonderful province with many great adventures to be had. In Polokwane you can walk with lions, have a drink in a Baobab Tree in Tzaneen and go on a golf cart safari (if you can convince the groundskeepers) at the Hans Merensky Hotel & Spa in Phalaborwa.

Phalaborwa also has the best airport in the world, in my opinion. On my last trip to South Africa in October 2009 I flew into this teeny tiny airport. The Phalaborwa Airport (PHW), is absolutely cute. From the moment you arrive you just want to go up to it an squeeze it’s cheeks and give it a big ‘ole hug.

King Shaka Airport in Durban Officially Opens!

On May 1st, 2010 the City of Durban opened a brand new airport: King Shaka International. I had the pleasure of arriving there on Day #2 of operation – May 2nd. And on this busy afternoon you could hardly tell that you were at an airport. Curious onlookers made a trip to the airport not to travel, but to stroll it’s terminals lined with shops, restaurants and entertainment.

My departure from Durban on May 8th was also it’s official Grand Opening. South African President Jacob Zuma was coming to cut the ribbon to make the airport official.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted interesting signs I’ve spotted throughout my travels. While I was at the Calgary Airport in Canada I came across a sign on March 13th taped to a Coca-Cola vending machine.

Perhaps the gurus in the marketing department could benefit from an intern to draft a new sales campaign. Or maybe operations could fix the machine? Just a thought…but what do I know about vending machines?

Traveling Through Denver International Airport

Non-stop flights are the best. But sometimes one has to make a layover in order to get to their final destination. Last week I found myself at Denver International Airport, DEN. With the few spare minutes I had, I made a video of some of the things I discovered at the airport. You’ll notice I’m sporting my new Cowboy Hat. I’ll tell you more about that in a future post.
