Snapshots from the Batu Caves

IMG 0043 Snapshots from the Batu Caves

The view as you approach the Batu Caves (no official homepage available) is unmistakeable. The limestone caves are home to a Hindu Shrine and are worthy of a visit outside of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia if only to see something strikingly different than what we have here in the United States.

At the base of the caves is a 140-foot statue dedicated to Lord Murugan, a Hindu Deity.

Pace yourself as you climb onward. The stairs are steep. Every once in a while, be sure to stop and turnaround to see the city off in the distance.

New Urban Male has a giant sperm as it’s logo in the store window display.

A Urinal Installed on the Floor?

Potty humor seems to be a recurring theme lately on this blog (just see my recent post on Funny, Farting Underwear). If you can’t giggle at a good poop joke, than you need to lighten up – that’s what I always say.

In any event, I was traveling through the Tokyo Airport in Japan and came across this urinal on the floor – at least that’s what I thought it was at first…

Driving on the Left!

From the Ultimate Thailand Explorers Pattaya Blog [originally published 6 January 2010].

Ever what what it is like driving on the left-hand side of the road? I took a trip on the highways of Thailand from Bangkok to Pattaya and hilarity ensues.

Enjoy your weekend. For those of us in Florida, warmer beach weather is just around the corner.

Hey Explorers,

We’re going to take a quick break from our itinerary posts and share with you a tense, but funny moment we had on our trip: navigating the roadways.

Nighttime Entertainment Part 2: The Avenue & Kum Punn Pub

It’s the weekend…celebrate!

Hey Explorers,

Today’s post about is a continuation from a post we wrote a few days ago about nighttime in Pattaya – Two for the Price of One!!!

The Avenue Shopping Center

With all the places we had been visiting, the opportunity to shop for gifts for friends and family was quickly fading away…until we landed at The Avenue Shopping Center. Conveniently located next door to the Dusit D2, our hotel, we bought nearly everything we needed at this outdoor market.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo

From the Ultimate Thailand Explorers Pattaya Blog [originally published 5 January 2010]

The Khao Kheow Open Zoo was a novel approach to a zoo. Guests can drive their car from exhibit area to exhibit area, travel by tram, or rent a golf cart. We chose the golf cart option and that’s where the antics began. Who wouldn’t want to parody Jurassic Park?

Happy New Year. See you in 2011!

Daytime Diversions

From the Ultimate Thailand Explorers Pattaya Blog [originally published 5 January 2010].

It’s only appropriate so close to Christmas that today’s post includes a photo that served as our Christmas Card for 2009. You’ll see it at the bottom.

If you want to escape the beach and do something different during the day in Pattaya, today’s post is just for you.

Merry Christmas to all of you celebrating!

Posing at McDonald’s in Thailand

Ronald McDonald is a clown.

Clowns scare me.

Therefore, using the transitive property of mathematics… Ronald McDonald scares me. The combination of ketchup-red hair, a mustard-yellow jumpsuit and these giant red lips on a pale, white face is just plain creepy.

Yet who could resist taking a photo like this in front of a McDonald’s in Bangkok, Thailand?

They are everywhere!

One of the adventures I like to have when I travel is eating at McDonald’s. It’s fun to compare the menu selection, taste and general representation of this super-sized American Brand. Sometimes you come across shocking discoveries like this statue of Ronald McDonald in Thailand and others like…

Ocean Marina Yacht Club

Our first hotel in Pattaya was the Ocean Marina Yacht Club. It was just a few minutes beyond the downtown area. Here’s our recap from our stay there. Have a great weekend.

Hey Explorers,

Is it just us, or does every hotel we stay at always have more comfortable pillows, blankets, and sheets than our own bed? The Ocean Marina Yacht Club, our first hotel in Pattaya, stays true to tradition and will make for a comfortable, peaceful retreat from the noise of Pattaya – while maintaining those stunning ocean views.
