I’m officially tired of winter. I live in Orlando, Florida; The Sunshine State. The state surrounded by beaches on three sides. I should have been to those beaches several times by now.
I haven’t been once.
Mother Nature gave us a bit of a reprieve this past weekend with a tease of warm weather. Many Floridians (including myself), took advantage of it by going to the 2010 Plant City Florida Strawberry Festival. I should hopefully have those posts published in the next few days.
But now I’m returning to the cold weather of Canada for week 3 of my 5 week adventure through the country.

I’ve been feeling ill the past few weeks. I have a cough and sore throat I can’t seem to get rid of. I’m thinking it’s related to the dry air of Oregon and Utah. The lack of humidity has dried my eyes and my throat. So over the weekend I needed some Vitamin D. I needed to relax, catch up on some sleep and breath the salty air of the ocean. A trip to Cocoa Beach was in order.

The launch for Space Shuttle Discovery was scrubbed and rescheduled for Thursday night. If Thursday shouldn’t work, Friday night is on hold for the last launch opportunity until October.
I’ve always wanted to watch a shuttle launch at night. I saw a daytime launch back in 2007 and was impressed (see the photo above). But a night time launch… everyone says those are even better. Space Shuttle Discovery’s planned launch is significant because this is the last scheduled night launch ever. The shuttle program is quickly nearing an end.

It’s the last Friday before the first day of school for students in Orange County, FL today. This officially marks the end of summer as they know it. Sure on the astronomical calendar summer still has another month, but according to the school calendar summer is done. In honor of the the back-to-school season I thought I would pay tribute to the summer destination of all carefree students: the Beach.
One of my favorite Florida Beaches is Miami Beach. It has a captivating energy that once you have been there, you’ll want to return again and again and again. Perhaps it’s the stunning Art Deco Architecture.
