Friday night I had the opportunity to attend the Festival of Chocolate at the University of Central Florida, thanks to my blogging buddy Brian from Central Florida Top 5. Of course I indulged in chocolate from around the world, paired with some wine and even had a chocolate facial. But the highlight of the evening was the Cocoa Couture Fashion Show on the Festival of Chocolate Yumway!
I’ve never attended a fashion show, nor would I consider fashion a focus of mine (remember, it’s one of the ways I save money to travel), so attending a fashion show isn’t high on my list. But let me tell you this… The Festival of Chocolate Fashion Show was hot.

I’m not a backpacker. Not a backpacker in the sense that I travel around the world for months at a time and live out of my backpack. But I am a traveler that loves traveling with a backpack. I love carrying my belongings on my back (and some in the front as displayed in this “turtling” photo above) than tugging them behind me in a suitcase.
But business travel doesn’t always lend itself to backpacks. Business travelers “must” carry briefcases, garment bags, suitcases and the like. They “must” exude an aura of professionalism, competence, leadership and command strength and attention. Stereotypically, backpacks communicate: immaturity, drunkenness, penny-pinching, slovenly appearance and general inexperience.

Protecting yourself from pickpockets is one of the realities of travel, especially in Europe. I’ve heard countless stories from travelers of how their credit cards, cash, identification and other valuables were lifted from their pants without them even knowing. But the P^Cubed Travel Pants from Clothing Arts prevent just that. They provided me with a pair of their adventure pants to try out for the past few months. How’d they test out in the field? Let’s take a look (and I promise there will be no underwear shots today)!

Your most important travel document is your passport. Hands down. Without it, you’re going nowhere fast. And if you’re like me, you probably keep an ever-watchful, neurotic eye on it’s whereabouts at all times. I’m constantly patting my pockets, looking inside my bag and (gasp) sometimes checking inside my embarrassingly lame money belt to make sure it’s safe. But the days of strapping on this purely functional tacky-tourist travel tool are gone.

New Urban Male is a men’s clothing store in Singapore.
New Urban Male has a giant sperm as it’s logo in the store window display.
Sometimes I’m left speechless.

How cold is whitewater rafting in Alaska?
Cold. Very Cold.
On my Great Alaskan Adventure I took the opportunity to go Whitewater Rafting with Denali Outdoor Center* and receive my first “glacial facial” while traveling down the Nenana River. Here’s what you need to know to have your own, awesome whitewater rafting adventure in Alaska.

You may recall an earlier post I wrote encouraging you to invest a lot of money before you travel on proper travel gear. One of those purchases was a pair of Vibram FiveFingers. I’ve been wearing them for about three months now and absolutely love them.
Vibram FiveFingers are the shoes you’ve seen people wear that look like feet (as in the photo above). Here are five reasons why they are great for travelers.
1. Comfortable

Last week I wrote about the importance of investing in quality travel gear before your next adventure. Today, I’d like to highlight appalachian outdoors*, an online travel gear retailer that you may want to consider when you need to stock up on travel apparel and other equipment. Here’s 3 reasons why.
1. Product Selection

One of the last items on my must-purchase list for my Great Alaskan Adventure was a rain jacket. Not knowing what to expect as far as what features exist and how much they cost, I was curious with what I would find online. Pleasantly…

Hey Adventurers,
I’m embarking on something I never thought I would – I’m running a half marathon. You should know I don’t run. But at the encouragement of a friend, I’m going to try it. Running a marathon is on my adventure list, so starting with a half is a good place to begin.
I’ll be participating in the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Saturday, October 1st, 2011. With only three months left to train, there’s much to be done. I’ll be documenting my progress along the way in this blog. And I’ll let you know now, you’re encouragement is highly needed. I can currently run 2 miles comfortably – 11 more to go!

South Africa always surprises me. Between having hippos as pets, the thrill of searching for lions, baboons trashing my room, eating bunnies, drinking amarula and the vuvuzela, there’s always something that makes me smile. There’s something to delight you around every corner. It’s like discovering a whole new world.
Such was the case on a trip to the shopping mall. I walked past a store called Pick ‘n Pay… and then I turned around and said, “was that Old Navy I just walked past?”
