<p>It just so happened that my trip to New Orleans was planned a few weeks before the Saints were headed to the Superbowl. What a wonderful moment of serendipity; Being in the same city as a Superbowl Home Team on the night of the game! And even better, they won.</p>
<p>This was the first time that the Saints were in (arguably), the biggest event in American Culture. And while it uncertain if they would remain victorious, the mere fact that they were playing was enough. It seemed as if the party started as soon as you woke up. All around the city people were chanting &#8220;Whodat&#8221; &#8211; the Saints cheer.</p>
<p>To get things started we purchased some T-shirts from <a title="Fleurty Girl Homepage" href="http://www.fleurtygirl.net/" target="_blank">Fleurty Girl</a>. I&#8217;ll write about her store in a future post.</p>
<p><a href="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_0886.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1862" title="IMG_0886" src="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_0886-225x300.jpg" alt="IMG 0886 225x300 Celebrating the Saints in New Orleans" width="225" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>After dressing up it was time to grab some beads from a passing Mardi Gras float and then find some adventures on Bourbon Street. As you can imagine, Bourbon Street &#8211; the pulse of New Orleans, was jam-packed with people. It was shoulder to shoulder. Bars were packed, the streets congested, liquor flowing freely and beads everywhere. Everyone greeted everyone with high fives, whodats and more.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a YouTube video of the energy and excitement surrounding Bourbon Street.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="Sv2aLGT9iEM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent" ></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Sv2aLGT9iEM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Our group of five managed to find a jazz trio on the sidewalk playing <em>When the Saints Go Marching In. </em>In true style when <a title="adventureswithben 10 year reunion post" href="http://adventureswithben.com/new-orleans/10-year-reunion/" target="_blank">the five of us get together</a>, we started dancing in the streets with some locals. Singing, dancing, cheering, shouting &#8220;Manning on the Ground&#8221; (A Pants on the Ground Spoof of the rival team The Colts), we created quite a scene. People stopped what they were doing, took our photos laughed and joined in the party. It was one of those rare moments when everything just felt perfect.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_0169.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1867" title="IMG_0169" src="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_0169-300x225.jpg" alt="IMG 0169 300x225 Celebrating the Saints in New Orleans" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Thank you to <a title="Doreen's Jazz New Orleans" href="http://www.doreensjazz.com/" target="_blank">Doreen&#8217;s Jazz New Orleans</a> for a memorable afternoon I&#8217;ll never forget.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">When the Saints emerged victorious the City erupted in cheers. From the patio we were standing on downtown, you could hear the whole city scream. I&#8217;ve never heard something like that before. Immediately afterwards the party continued I&#8217;m sure until the sun came up.</p>
<div id="attachment_1864" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_0206.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1864" title="IMG_0206" src="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_0206-300x225.jpg" alt="IMG 0206 300x225 Celebrating the Saints in New Orleans" width="300" height="225" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Discarded trash I found on the street from the Superbowl Celebration</p></div>
<p style="text-align: left;">How did you celebrate the New Orleans Saints winning the Superbowl? Is the party still continuing? Leave your comment below.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">
<p style="text-align: left;">And just for fun, here&#8217;s a clip of me trying to tie a cherry stem into a knot. It turns out <a title="Pat O'Brien's Homepage" href="http://www.patobriens.com/patobriens/" target="_blank">Pat O&#8217;Brien&#8217;s</a> Bar (of the world-famous Hurricanes), was giving out free hot dogs. So naturally we needed something to wash them down with and the cherry is always the best part of any drink.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">I could use a beignet (Ben-Yay) right now. They look delicious don&#8217;t they? No trip to New Orleans is complete without a stop at Cafe Du Monde. They are located in several locations in Louisiana, but the original is where you need to visit. Located at the end of the French Market since 1862 &#8211; just across from Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde makes for a perfect stop in the morning before shopping for breakfast.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The menu is fairly limited. Beignets, coffee, juice and that&#8217;s about it. But who needs anything else when you can have the most delicious powdered sugar donut in the world? Come enjoy a beignet (or three) with me&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="UVMikjQnTOk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent" ></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UVMikjQnTOk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: left;">The beignets come three at a time, and that&#8217;s plenty. It was quite busy on the day I visited, so you may need to vulture for a table. Watch those camera lenses since the powered sugar goes everywhere; On the tables, chairs, clothes and even on the city sidewalks.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_5105.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1845" title="IMG_5105" src="http://adventureswithben.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/IMG_5105-300x200.jpg" alt="IMG 5105 300x200 Cultural Foods: Cafe Du Monde" width="300" height="200" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">I wish I knew how much powdered sugar Cafe Du Monde goes through in one day. Every plate comes with a glass of water, which you&#8217;ll need to help wash down the powdery piece of heaven. No matter how long you&#8217;re in town for, make some time to enjoy Cafe Du Monde. You&#8217;re tummy will be glad you did!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The official site for Cafe Du Monde can be found <a title="Cafe Du Monde Homepage" href="http://www.cafedumonde.com/main.html" target="_blank">here</a>. They&#8217;re also connected on <a title="Cafe Du Monde Facebook Page" href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cafe-du-Monde/29143227518" target="_blank">Facebook</a>.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">How many beignets from Cafe du Monde have you had at one sitting? Leave your comment below!</p>

<p>For the longest time I have always wanted to attend Mardi Gras in New Orleans. In fact, it&#8217;s been on my Adventure List for several years. And while Mardi Gras as it&#8217;s translated is Fat Tuesday, the revelry takes place over the course of several weeks in New Orleans.</p>
