I thought I’d start the week with a few signs I spotted while in South Africa last October. I found them on a golf course. And when they say Wild Animals, they’re not talking about bears and raccoons or even gazelles and birds. They mean real, dangerous, wild animals.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted interesting signs I’ve spotted throughout my travels. While I was at the Calgary Airport in Canada I came across a sign on March 13th taped to a Coca-Cola vending machine.

Perhaps the gurus in the marketing department could benefit from an intern to draft a new sales campaign. Or maybe operations could fix the machine? Just a thought…but what do I know about vending machines?

On my trip to St. John’s, Newfoundland in Canada I was told that Cape Spear is the easternmost point on the continent of North America. It was about a 20 minute drive from my hotel and I didn’t have a rental car! It would have been a shame to come this far and not make a trip out there. Fortunately, my host graciously offered to drive us to the cape. Watch this YouTube video to see what I found…

Every trip I take is special. Every trip is unique. But not every trip has moments like these, where you’re standing at the edge of the continent we call home. Not every trip takes you to these remote places.

Now for those of you who live by attention to detail, there is some ambiguity as to which point is technically the easternmost point on the continent. You see, Nordostrundingen, Greenland is technically the furthest – but Greenland is not necessarily connected to the rest of the continent. However… following the same logic, Newfoundland is technically an island, making Cape St. Charles in Labrador Canada the most eastern point on the mainland. But…Semisopochnoi Island in Alaska stretches into the eastern hemisphere, possibly giving it the title.

I argue, that since Cape Spear had a sign marking the spot, it is the easternmost point. But what do you think? Did I make it to the easternmost point in North America? Or did I miss it on a technicality? Comment with your opinion.
