There’s nothing wrong with being a tourist (it’s part of my travel philosophy). And drinking a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel is high up on the “touristy” list of things to do in Singapore. What is a Singapore Sling?
The famous Singapore Sling is a fruity, alcoholic drink that originated at the Raffles Hotel way back in 1915. The bartender, Ngiam Tong Boon, invented it as a drink for British Ladies (thus it’s striking pink color) because they weren’t supposed to be seen drinking in public. 4 really smart thoughts |

Whether it’s a tower, wheel, needle or office building, every city has some sort of observation deck. But the recently open Marina Bay Sands SkyPark in Singapore is the epitome of luxury, height, novelty and coolness. When I shared with a colleague of mine that I was going to Singapore, he told me I had to check out this new hotel that opened with an observation deck that extends over the end of the building. I researched what he was talking about, inquired with their media department and was graciously given a tour of the newest and most happening hot spot in Singapore. Leave a comment, beautiful. |

Email This PostUnfortunately with business trips, you don’t always have the chance to see much of the city you’re traveling in. Such is the case with this trip. I’m hoping Thursday night will yield some fun. The combination of jet lag and work responsibilities has prevented lots of fun time. Nonetheless, I thought I would share some observations from 2 days in Singapore.

In addition to timing the time it takes to travel overseas, another one of my travel traditions is to eat a Big Mac in “foreign” countries (like South Africa). While my research thus far has found that no matter the country, the Big Mac tastes the same as in the U.S. 100% of the time, I always want to sample it anyway – just in case. Email This PostEver since I timed how long it took to fly from Orlando to Africa, I’ve become obsessed with timing all my international flights. So when I left my house to fly from Orlando to Singapore, the clock started as soon as I pulled out of the garage door of my house to leave for the airport.
Singapore is the World’s Longest FlightSingapore is located in South East Asia and holds the current record for the longest, non-stop flight. The Newark to Singapore route clocks in at 18 hours 50 minutes. Can you imagine being in a plane for that long? Los Angeles to Singapore comes in at number 2 according to Wikipedia which keeps a list of non-stop flights records. I was flying Orlando to Chicago, Chicago to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Singapore. 8 really smart thoughts |

Where on earth did I find something like this…? Singapore. I was there on business and my host offered to take me out to the Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant at the Singapore Marriott Hotel. I just about had a heart attack when I saw this menu (frequent readers will know about my challenges in eating new foods.) With an option of going hungry or being polite and gracious, I chose the latter. 6 really smart thoughts |
