There’s nothing wrong with being a tourist and doing the touristy attractions. My primary purpose in traveling is to have fun, and there are some awesome, fun things around the world that are on the beaten path. Today’s adventure takes you to one such place near Cape Town, South Africa: Moyo.
Moyo is a restaurant chain located throughout South Africa. It combines traditional, African cuisine with African entertainment. After wine tasting at Spier, we decided to dine at Moyo’s location in Stellenbosch. Take a look in this YouTube video.
VAT is short for Value Added Tax. It’s a tax that’s added onto goods in other countries – in it’s simplest explanation. The United States doesn’t charge VAT, but lots of other countries around the world do? Why does this matter?
Because International Travelers can receive a refund on the VAT they pay when they depart the country. That’s money in your pocket! I like to think of it as a parting gift, a “Thank You for Visiting!”
Last year at this time I was preparing to board a plane to travel to South Africa for 6 weeks of business before the 2010 FIFA World Cup. I’ve been traveling to South Africa every year since 2007. It’s my happy place. And while 2011 is still only an adolescent, I don’t anticipate returning to SA anytime soon. If all works out, I’ll be taking my mom, dad and brother in 2012. Until then, I can only dream.
In the spirit of returning to my happy place, here’s a few of my favorite South African-inspired posts. Check them out and discover why South Africa is my happy place:
Such was the case on a trip to the shopping mall. I walked past a store called Pick ‘n Pay… and then I turned around and said, “was that Old Navy I just walked past?”
No trip to South Africa is complete without a trip to a Game Reserve. During a stay at the Ivory Tree Game Lodge in Pilanesberg Game Reserve I had one of the most spectacular Lion Spottings ever. Take a look (fast forward to 1:09 to where the action really begins)
After multiple trips and game drives in South Africa, I can say that this, by far, was the best experience I’ve ever had. So how can you have a similar one experience? Here are some tips…
Today’s post is a lesson in patience. If you want to see lions in South Africa, you need to be patient. Stay tuned later this week for one of the most spectacular lion spots I had at Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa (and it was caught on tape too!). And if you can’t wait, you can feed your anticipation by reading my story about almost being attacked by a lion.
I’ll see you out there…!

Last week my online travel store with fun and unique travel products had it’s official grand opening. And in it, I am currently selling two products: the tugo cup holder and MirrorSleeves. In the 1st of a 2-part series, I thought I would share some inspiration into these accessories for your car.
What Are MirrorSleeves?
First things first, MirrorSleeves are car mirror covers for your side-view mirrors on your automobile. They are also sometimes called Mirror Socks, Mirror Sleeves and Car Mirror Socks.
Whatever you call them, they are a unique and creative way to personalize your car.
I was inspired by a recent post on GloboTreks, River Cruising: a Different Adventurous Journey. A river cruise is a fantastic way to see a city from a new perspective. And while I was in Phalaborwa, South Africa, I discovered that they are also an excellent and different way to spot game.
Yesterday’s sign was spotted along the Olifants River in Limpopo Province. There are real, wild animals along this river. Africa ain’t for sissies. Any safari, whether it be by land or see has an element of danger. For example, did you know, hippos are the most dangerous animal to humans (yes more dangerous than the big cats)? Yep. People assume they are docile, but get in their way, and they become vicious and deadly!
