Appalachian Outdoors Travel Store Review

Last week I wrote about the importance of investing in quality travel gear before your next adventure. Today, I’d like to highlight appalachian outdoors*, an online travel gear retailer that you may want to consider when you need to stock up on travel apparel and other equipment. Here’s 3 reasons why.

1. Product Selection

One of the last items on my must-purchase list for my Great Alaskan Adventure was a rain jacket. Not knowing what to expect as far as what features exist and how much they cost, I was curious with what I would find online. Pleasantly…

Comprehensively Green

I’ve lived in Orlando for nearly six years and I was quite curious what is green in travel and tourism around here. What surprises would this app have in store? Kim Button, Blogger at Central Florida Green Guide and author of the app says it best in the app’s intro,

EatSmart™ Precision Voyager Luggage Scale Giveaway

Unless you’re flying business class, you’ll probably have to deal with the added baggage fees most airlines are charging these days. And if your bags are a few pounds overweight, those merciless airlines will charge you overweight fees, second bag fees and “we just like to charge you fees” fees. Just last week I saw a weary traveler at an airport in Canada repacking her suitcases at the check-in counter because one of her bags was overweight. Tres embarrassing when you’re delicates are strewn all over the terminal floor! Enter the EatSmart Precision Voyager Luggage Scale.

How to Create a Realistic Household Budget

How much can you spend each week on groceries? What about your cell phone bill? And how much can you afford to put onto your credit card each weekend? If you can’t answer those questions quickly, then you probably haven’t created a household budget.

And budgeting your money is a critical, first step in traveling more (part 3 in a 5-part series about travel and money)

It’s surprising how many people I know don’t know what their spending limits are! Corporations have vast teams that manage the money – but at home, we neglect this critical tool. Which is why…

Why I Want to Drive 1,554 Miles After Reading “Drive I-95″

Drivei95cover 201x300 Why I Want to Drive 1,554 Miles After Reading Drive I 95

Having blogged about travel for 15 months, I’ve reached a milestone where PR folks flood my box with pitches for stories – most of them not of any interest to me (or you). But an offer to read Drive I-95, a book by Stan and Sandra Posner, caught my attention. Having driven that stretch of highway many times from my home state of Massachusetts all the way to Florida, I can tell you that it’s not pleasant. It’s long, boring and takes two full days with little to look forward to.

Introducing the tugo cup holder with h20tugo Accessory

A few weeks back I wrote about one of the products in my online, travel store, MirrorSleeves. This week I’d like to share the tugo cup holder with you. The story of the tugo goes back all the way to September of 2009. I came across this nifty travel accessory and wanted to try it out. I connected with it’s inventor and later wrote a post reviewing the product.

When it came time to build my inventory for the store, I immediately thought of the tugo and the relationship I formed a year ago. Fortunately we’ve remained in touch and the great staff at goodtugo were happy to have their product featured.

This past Sunday 13 Travel Bloggers from Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach Regions met at the Orlando Science Center for the Central Florida TBEX Chapter Launch Party. (*And if you’re not a travel blogger you can read about an irreverent magazine article about what Brazil is encouraging their citizens to do in the name conserving water.)

The event started off with a welcome from Jeff Stanford, VP of Communications for the Orlando Science Center and Susan Lomx, VP of Publicity for the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. Both organizations were instrumental in helping us organize the event, including the donation of function space by the Orlando Science Center.

What Travel Gear can I Purchase Online?

There are currently two criteria that I have for the travel stuff in my online travel store

  1. It’s gotta be great. I wouldn’t sell anything I wouldn’t buy myself. I standby the quality of each product.
