Your most important travel document is your passport. Hands down. Without it, you’re going nowhere fast. And if you’re like me, you probably keep an ever-watchful, neurotic eye on it’s whereabouts at all times. I’m constantly patting my pockets, looking inside my bag and (gasp) sometimes checking inside my embarrassingly lame money belt to make sure it’s safe. But the days of strapping on this purely functional tacky-tourist travel tool are gone.
Enter The Clever Travel Companion
The Clever Travel Companion makes pickpocket proof underwear with pockets for travelers. I jumped at the chance to take these out on a test drive for this holiday season’s travel gift guide. Let’s take a look at how they, ahem, measured up…
Functionality
Clever Travel Companion provided me with one pair of men’s boxer briefs (ladies, you’re on your own) to test out on my recent jaunts around the world. There are two pockets, one on either leg. They are sized to carry a passport, cash, credit cards or other small items. It’s easy to stuff your shorts as you’re getting dressed in the morning. and Zipping them up is a breeze. The pocket size is appropriate, and rests mid-thigh.
Whether you’re jetting through terminals or walking through the city, you barely know anything is there. More importantly, pickpockets wouldn’t suspect a thing. The pocket placement allows for easy movement, is completely invisible (unless you strip in the middle of the downtown square) and when stocked feels like there’s nothing there.
The Clever Travel Companion does an excellent job of protecting your valuables, but be sure you don’t need to access anything in them during the middle of the day. The only way to access your stuff is to unzip your pants and reach down inside . They’re great for keeping spare credit cards, you driver’s license, hotel room keys, emergency cash and your passport (if you don’t need it on that particular day).

Look & Feel

The cut of these boxer briefs is a bit longer than most in my top drawer. While it’s true that I prefer a shorter cut (TMI?), it’s not like the whole world will be seeing you in them (or will they)? It all comes down to a matter of personal taste. (Note: I presume that the longer cut is needed to compensate for the pocket length.) The fabric is 95% cotton and 5% spandex. They are comfortable, supportive and the size stated is what’s reflected in the actual product (no need to order up or down a size). Available colors for men include: Blue, Black, Gray and Green. Gents, there are two buttons in the front to access your valuables not protected by the zipper pockets.
Hot stuff!

Durability
I’ve run the Clever Travel Companion through the wash a number of times and they’re still going strong. The zipper has been pulled back and forth on numerous occasions and is still working just fine. All indications point to quality.
Price
The men’s and women’s underwear retails for $29.90 per pair, which makes them the single-most expensive pair in my collection. But at the end of the day, I think it’s priced right. Remember, you’re not just buying a pair of underwear, but a functional travel accessory that will give you the peace of mind you need to enjoy your adventures. You can purchase them at the Clever Travel Companion Online Store.
Conclusion
Underwear with pockets is perhaps one of the most fun, clever (duh) and useful travel investments you could make. I giggle every time I have them on. It’s a product that does what it promises… and does it well. They are priced right for travelers of any style and would make a great stocking stuffer. I love ‘em and wear ‘em and I suggest you add a pair (or two) to your collection. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook

Yep, this was a risky one!
This is a great idea! I’ll give you the credit you’re due, I wouldn’t be posting a picture of me in my underwear!

Yes, they are still comfortable when stuffed.
holy cwap. that was awesome!!! I’m not laughing at you, i swear, i’m laughing with you…
I love the idea of having your CC’s, cash, & passports in a secure location…MUCH better than a money belt, but i wonder how it’d be in the dead heat of summer??
i think to do this test justice, you really should test out the women’s for us, too…you know, for your readers.

I think you should try them out and let me know!
Seems a good thing for a constant traveller!! It equates to Rs. 15000 in Indian Rupees, thats just too high!!!

Everything is high when converted to Rupees, lol.
They’d be great if you wanted to go shopping with only your underpants on!!?

That would be fun! You’d never need to carry a wallet again! At the club, the grocery store, the mall…
Dude, I don’t know which is worse: the post you did of the dead toe drink, or you in your underwear! Both will induce nightmares!

But only one will get you tipsy!
This seems like a good invention! Since most people (I assume) change their underwear everyday, do you have to wash it nightly while you travel?

Well Michael, you’re making a big assumption there, lol! I suppose you don’t have to wash them nightly… but I’m a fan of clean skivvies each day! Buy a few.
They look pretty useful, and I love the interior pockets for sure. My only problem with underwear like this is while traveling through hot humid countries they tend to get real sticky/stuffy/drenched real fast… How’s the air-flow?

Great point. My travels were in cold to warm climate and they felt just fine. I’ll re-evaluate during a warmer time of year.
Do you think they would give me one to try out? See how this kind of underwear and glamour match?
Perhaps. Send them an email. That’s what I did!
I can see that, just as soon as I tuck something important away in my underwear, I would need to dig it back out again. Hopefully, a bathroom would be close by so I could strip down!

You do need to plan ahead, that’s for sure. Or maybe cut a hole in your pants pockets to reach down there.
