Central Florida TBEX Chapter is Official

Central Florida TBEX Chapter is Official

This past Sunday 13 Travel Bloggers from Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach Regions met at the Orlando Science Center for the Central Florida TBEX Chapter Launch Party. (*And if you’re not a travel blogger you can read about an irreverent magazine article about what Brazil is encouraging their citizens to do in the name conserving water.)

The event started off with a welcome from Jeff Stanford, VP of Communications for the Orlando Science Center and Susan Lomx, VP of Publicity for the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. Both organizations were instrumental in helping us organize the event, including the donation of function space by the Orlando Science Center.

After introductions by the travel bloggers in attendance (read this recap post from Central Florida Top 5 for the attendee list), the group got to work and discussed how this chapter could serve the Travel Blogging Community in Central Florida.

With formalities over, the group spent the remainder of the afternoon exploring the Orlando Science Center’s exhibits.

And as travel bloggers do, a few of us kept the evening going with dinner and drinks at Funky Monkey Wine Company.

Our next meet-up will be in early 2011. If you’d like to join us at our next event, be sure to join our group on the TBEX Website for all the details. The Central Florida Chapter of Travel Blog Exchange is open to any travel bloggers in the Central Florida Corridor (and beyond).

What’s your favorite part about meet-ups? Share by commenting.

I’ll see you out there…! And I hope it will be at our 2011 meet-up

Don’t forget, all through the month of December I’m accepting submissions for my Travel Question of the Month. Click here for more details.

Hope to make it next time. But then, I live in Miami, guess that’s another chapter. Are ‘aliens’ allowed?

inka – as long as the aliens are writing a travel blog, sure!

The NVR Guys

Looks like a hit, Ben! We love science centers!

NVR Guys – Thanks. What’s your favorite part? I love dinosaurs!

Agree with Cathy and Adam- this makes me want to go to one in my neck of the woods. btw- we went to Florida State and have many fond memories of Orlando!!

Jade – you took a risk sharing your support for Florida State. Fortunately, I don’t care much about football and thus have no loyalties to any of the schools. Come on down to Orlando and visit us at our next meet-up!

Cathy Sweeney

Nice job, Ben. I need to find out if there’s a TBEX chapter in my area.

Check with Maren Hogan at TBEX for a nearby chapter (or how to start one). I think only NY, Vegas and FL have them.

This makes me realize how badly I wish I could find some people around my hometown for something like this. Sounds like fun.

Adam – Start the search, it took about a month of work to find everyone in Orlando (and a date where most could attend).

Ben, I’m so glad it went well! You have worked incredibly hard to create and launch this group, your work and vision appears to have successfully paid off. I’m sorry we ended up having to miss last minute, but I’m honored to be a part of things and look forward to where we take this.
A round of applause for my friend & a great travel blogger!

Rori, great things are just around the corner that will need your help! Thanks for being a great brain to share ideas with.

Matt Hope

Wish I could have been there! From the discussion so far it looks like I’ll be missing the next one as well :( I’ll be in Central America from January 6th until the middle of March….

Bummer Matt. But Central America sounds exciting. We’ll see you around I’m sure at some point.

Great to see the post. Saw your twitter but was on my way to Seaworld for their celebration I had missed the prior weekend.

Will make meetings in the future

Be sure you’re a member of the online TBEX group for details on the 2011 meetup. See ya next time Eileen.
