Allow me to introduce the gang from New Orleans. We all met 10 years ago on a college internship. It was the summer of 2000, whether by fate, serendipity or chance that our paths crossed all at once. We hail from all corners of the country, California, Massachusetts, Louisiana, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Our friendship lasted through the summer and continued through the years.
It’s been 8 years (count ‘em, eight), since all five of us have last been together. The passing of time has charted our courses in different directions. Sometimes two or three of us may connect for a mini-vacation or for a bed to sleep in on a cross-country trip, but all five of us, in one place – it’s been a long overdue meet-up.
I wanted to introduce you to this gang, because they’re important to me. Despite the distance, the points where we are in our lives, we have managed to keep the friendship strong. Whenever we meet, and this trip was no different, we pick up right where we left off. Neither of us have changed one bit.
My trip to New Orleans was not a sightseeing trip. There were little sights to be seen over this weekend. It was a trip to hang out, to be ourselves and appreciate each other’s company. Sometimes those are the best trips. We had no plans, wore no watches and reminisced on 10 years of memories with more to come.
And for that reason, New Orleans will always be special.
