In yesterday’s post, I shared with you all the fun I had at the 2010 Plant City, Florida Strawberry Festival. You were probably wondering, did I eat any strawberries at the strawberry festival? The answer is, absolutely.

Strawberry Shortcake is the plate-du-jour. Most locations serve it pre-made with your choice of biscuit or cake (have the cake). But the most popular spot (and the place I missed), was the create-your-own strawberry shortcake. For the suggested donation of $3.50, it’s a great festival treat. The lines are long so bring your patience.

And fresh strawberries? You can buy those too, but be careful. I was slightly disappointed that the strawberry flats (boxes of strawberries), cost more than what you can pay for at the grocery store. But if you’ve gotta have ‘em, there are cases of them for sale. Nice big ones too.

But there’s more to enjoy at the festival besides strawberries. Watch this YouTube video and discover for yourself what my stomach found…

What do you think? Is your stomach cringing?

I should share with you that I don’t eat healthy all the time… but I do try to watch what I eat, limit the bad stuff and manage my portion sizes.

I was torn while at the festival. I wanted to eat healthy, but I wanted to be bad and enjoy those delicious baskets of cholesterol. I ultimately chose eating healthy and part of me regrets it.

“Why must I care about my health!?”

One of the things I learned was that you can fry butter. I think that’s an oxymoron or something. Oh and fry Pepsi too (apparently they inject it into fried batter).

As you saw in the video, I did sample a fried snickers.

All were disgusting. I should add that my brother once made the Krispy Kreme burger at home with his friends. He followed Paula Dean’s recipe. They all started throwing up in the backyard. No exaggeration. The mix of sweet and salt just doesn’t do it for me.

Yet despite the necessary doctor’s visit you’ll need to have after eating all these foods, there’s something comforting about them. Something very American about fair food.

So throw caution to the wind, let your guard down and eat all the fried goodness your digestive system can handle at the 2010 Plant City Florida Strawberry Festival. And if you start feeling guilty, go to the salad kiosk (just be sure they don’t fry it before they serve it to you!).

What’s the most interesting food you’ve ever eaten fried? Was it delicious? Share your experience by leaving a comment below.

And in case you missed yesterday’s post. The photos from the festival are on my facebook fan page. You can view them all by clicking here.

I think that it is not fair to say the food was disgusting just because you didn’t like it. Part of your job is to try these foods and have an open mind, it is fine if you don’t like it but you shouldn’t bash it. These people work hard for their money and you may cost them business.

Vern, thanks for commenting. First, it’s absolutely fair to say that I found the food disgusting. I did try the foods with an open mind, and found them unappetizing. Trying them with an open mind doesn’t mean I need to like them. At the end of the post I also encouraged readers to do the same – to throw caution to the wind and discover for themselves, which encourages business.

Did you try any of the food at the festival? What did you think? I’m sure readers would appreciate another perspective!

  • I’m allergic to strawberries :(

That is unfortunate Jessica! What about strawberry flavoring? Can you enjoy other berries? I suppose you could always try the Krispy Kreme Burger – no strawberries in that!
