How to Photograph The Eiffel Tower

Hey Adventurers,

Today’s post is a quickie. Something different from the normal, wordy posts. I thought I’d share with you one of my favorite photos I took of the Eiffel Tower. Took this in October of 2008.

How I took it (with my Canon Rebel Xti)

If you’d like to take a photo of the Eiffel Tower like this, here’s some tips to help you replicate it:

  • You’ll need to place your camera on a tripod
  • Shooting at dusk provides you with fantastic light
  • I used a shutter release cable to keep the lens open long enough to create this colorful effect
  • Trial and error – I took several dozen of these photos until I got the one that I liked best. Patience is important

  • The one BIG tip that you did not tell us was how you managed to get this shot without crowds of people in the foreground, or the hawkers!! Unless of course it is dawn.

Did you take any later, with the main lighting effects showing?

CaricatureKing, great question. The park surrounding the Eiffel Tower was fenced off. No one was allowed on the grass, so I was able to avoid the hawkers with the dangling Eiffel Tower keychains and assorted knick-knacks. If you look carefully, you’ll see them underneath the base of the tower.

I did take additional photos at night and uploaded them to my Facebook Photo Album here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=199069&id=172298089835
