Yes I’m in South Africa. Yes I’ve just spent the weekend at a 5-Star Hotel, Yes I’m touring the country…But it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be.
Much of my traveling is done on business. It sounds all sexy and exotic and lavish, but not always. Take for instance this most recent week.
- I’ve been waking up at 4:45 A.M. in the morning
- My commute has been about 2 hours each way
- I’ve been eating fast food all the time (there’s nothing else – and not much time to eat anyway)
- There’s no phone in my room to call loved ones
- I’m constantly unpacking and repacking my suitcase
- I miss my friends and family
- I have no car, so evenings are spent in my hotel room, alone
- It’s tough trying to keep up with the news
- I’m exhausted at night
I write this not to complain, but to let you all know that a life on the road isn’t easy, and isn’t always glamourous. That’s why I work real hard to seek out adventures. To break out of the routine. To take advantage of what’s just outside my door. It’s not always easy, but I think it makes them all the more special when I can do it.

I’ll see you out there…!
