My Favorite Airport in the World: PHW – Phalaborwa

This week I’m in Limpopo Province. It’s a wonderful province with many great adventures to be had. In Polokwane you can walk with lions, have a drink in a Baobab Tree in Tzaneen and go on a golf cart safari (if you can convince the groundskeepers) at the Hans Merensky Hotel & Spa in Phalaborwa.

Phalaborwa also has the best airport in the world, in my opinion. On my last trip to South Africa in October 2009 I flew into this teeny tiny airport. The Phalaborwa Airport (PHW), is absolutely cute. From the moment you arrive you just want to go up to it an squeeze it’s cheeks and give it a big ‘ole hug.

It’s located in the Northern part of the country, next to Kruger National Park. It’s your quintessential African airport, complete with 1 runway, small jets, thatched roofs and being near to the African Bush.

The Phalaborwa Airport has easily become my favorite airport in the world.  Check out this YouTube video to see why.

The Phalaborwa Airport is yet another reminder as to why South Africa is simply magic.
