I never realized how critical a passport is to travel, until I didn’t have one. This post was originally going to be about how I can’t leave the United States. You see, I mailed my passport in last week. My stamp from Thailand put me very close to running out of pages and I have a few trips to Canada next month. I was going to go on and on in this post about how sad it is to not be able to travel (not that I had plans or anything, but it’s nice to know that I could if I wanted to), but the U.S. Department of State surprised me.
In my mailbox today was my new passport. Yes I paid for expedited processing, but that turnaround time is posted at 2-3 weeks. I got mine returned in only 1! The government is never good with beauracracy, but somehow they managed to surprise me. I can travel overseas again!
So kudos to you Passport Processing Facility in Philadelphia. Thank you for making this world accessible to us all.

In other news…
It’s been more than a month since I’ve written on this blog. The Ultimate Thailand Explorers Competition has kept me quite busy. But it’s time to get back into the routine and over the next few weeks you can look forward to (what I hope you will find), some great posts. Here’s what’s on the docket…
- A few posts about what it was like participating in the Ultimate Thailand Explorers Competition
- What I learned from the competition and what enhancements you’ll see on this site as a result
- The announcement of my big trip for 2010
- A few posts on how to pay for adventures
- Stories from Africa. I haven’t forgotten, but with the focus on Thailand, Africa has been sitting in the queue
- New Year’s Resolutions for adventureswithben.com
A new tagline is in the works t00.
As you can see I’ve got my work cut out for me. Here’s hoping 2010 will be a year of many adventures!
