This is a photo of me, first in line, to ask for exit row seats for my flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg, South Africa. The flight is a hellatious 19 hours. That is a long time to be sitting in an airline seat in coach. Fortunately, since I waited there for about an hour, I was able to get the exit seat I had requested and the trip was bearable – but still miserable. I’m not always lucky enough to have an exit row. And I’m guessing that you aren’t always that lucky too. Don’t fret, I have a great travel resource for you, Seat Guru.
Seat Guru lists virtually every airline seat configuration for virtually every airline imaginable. Passengers rate each seat according to it’s comfort, space, amenities, proximity to the lavatory and galley, tray table, location to the TV and anything else that could impede or enhance passenger comfort. It turns out, that the exit row isn’t the only row of seats that have extra legroom. Bulkheads and other random rows often have even more room depending on the plane’s configuration. I’ll tell you how to use it best:
- Go to the website of your air carrier and pull up your itinerary. Confirm which model aircraft you’ll be flying. Ex. Boeing 737-700.
- Go to seatguru.com and pull up your air carrier and the aircraft model you will be flying.
- Review which seat you have and determine if you need to change your seat based on passenger reviews.
- Return to your air carrier’s website and change your seat if necessary.
- Relax on your flight, knowing that you had insider information no one else bothered to research. You’re flying in style!
- Pay it forward and rate your seat experience on the Seat Guru website for others to enjoy.
I use Seat Guru every time I fly. I don’t pick my seats without it. In fact, I used it when I booked my trip to Chicago, which is where I am right now. Be sure to follow my adventures live in Chicago on Twitter.
