I love to travel. I am grateful to have a found a job where I get to do just that. I received news recently that I will be going to Chicago in the middle of August. Before I travel anywhere there are several travel resources that I check out. This first is always Wikitravel.
You may be familiar with Wikipedia. Wikitravel follows a similar model of user-generated content by volunteers from around the globe that share travel information for virtually every destination imaginable. Here is why I go to Wikitravel first:
- The information is current. Users such as yourself update the site’s content ensuring that I have the most accurate information possible.
- It has every piece of detail I need to plan a successful trip. From the moment I arrive until the moment I depart, I know everything about the airports, public transportation, attractions, restaurants, hotels and nearby attractions outside of the city limit.
That’s my list. It’s rather short, I know. But I don’t need a lot of reasons. Simply put it gives you the information that you need. Based on my research from Wikitravel here is what I’d like to do while in Chicago:
- Walk the Magnificent Mile
- Visit the Shedd Aquarium during Jazzin’ at the Shedd
- Eat some Chicago Deep Dish Pizza
- See Buckingham Fountain during it’s nightly illumination
- Walk on the Sky Deck at Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower)
- Visit the Field Museum of Chicago and see Sue the T-Rex
As you can see, I have a pretty aggressive schedule. Now let me clear on something, I’m in Chicago to work. That’s the priority. But if I play my cards right, I hope to have some free time on the day I arrive and leave and evenings free to take in all the sights that I am hoping too. Stay tuned to adventureswithben.com for more tales of adventure as I journey to Chicago. In the meantime, comment below with any travel tips to the Windy City.

Stefan, thank you for the clarification. I have updated the post. I think you may have a branding opportunity
Thank you for the great Chicago insights, I had a great trip.
Just a small heads up, Wikitravel and Wikipedia is not affiliated in any way. And while wikitravel is entirely run by volunteers and the content is under a free license so anyone can use it, the servers and trademark was sold to Internet Brands a while ago.
But thanks for the kind words – the Chicago guide is one of our jewels
Thank you Donna. I will have to check it out. Nice Photos. Thank you for sharing!

Chicago is so much fun. we did visit Shedd’s aquarium we did have some Chicago Deep Dish Pizza(Giordanos) to be exact, we saw Buckingham Fountain during the day and went to the top of Sear’s tower. There was no sky deck at the time back in 1996. I hope you have fun when you go and have rekindle the fond memories of our big xcross country family vaca in 1996. Love Mom
