Boogie Boarding at Cocoa Beach

Ben Laying Down at the Beach

I’ve been feeling ill the past few weeks. I have a cough and sore throat I can’t seem to get rid of. I’m thinking it’s related to the dry air of Oregon and Utah. The lack of humidity has dried my eyes and my throat. So over the weekend I needed some Vitamin D. I needed to relax, catch up on some sleep and breath the salty air of the ocean. A trip to Cocoa Beach was in order.

Cocoa Beach is a 45 minute drive from my home. For early birds, free parking is available at Ron Jon Surf Shop. They also have clean restrooms. You have to walk through the entire store and up to the 2nd floor to get to them, but they are free and clean. No gross, sandy port-a-potties here.

I’ve written about Cocoa Beach before here, and today was no different. That $10 investment in a Boogie Board provided some fun action in the water. But more important than that, I got to sleep on the sand, listening to the waves crash just a few feet away. To get me in the spirit, I stretched out on the blanket and listened to my beach-theme playlist. Here’s some great tunes to get you in the mood at the beach, direct from my Surf Rock Playlist:

  • Pipeline – The Chantays
  • Wipe Out – The Surfaris
  • Walk Don’t Run – The Ventures
  • Surfin’ U.S.A. – The Beach Boys
  • Hawaii Five-O – The Ventures
  • Misirlou – Dick Dale
  • Surf City – Jan & Dean
  • Sleepwalk – Santo & Johnny
  • Palisades Park – Freddy Cannon
  • Bombora – The Atlantics
  • California Sun – The Ramones

Music, sun and the ocean was just what the doctor ordered.
