It’s the last Friday before the first day of school for students in Orange County, FL today. This officially marks the end of summer as they know it. Sure on the astronomical calendar summer still has another month, but according to the school calendar summer is done. In honor of the the back-to-school season I thought I would pay tribute to the summer destination of all carefree students: the Beach.
One of my favorite Florida Beaches is Miami Beach. It has a captivating energy that once you have been there, you’ll want to return again and again and again. Perhaps it’s the stunning Art Deco Architecture.

Or the sultry and seductive nightlife on Ocean Drive, immediately adjacent to the beach.

Or the ability to fantasize about the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Whatever it is, Miami Beach is a destination with a well-deserved reputation. The proximity of Ocean Drive to the beach provides a quick escape from the hotel to the ocean. Restaurants, shops and clubs line the street to keep you busy for hours – even if it is just to people watch. For the photographer, there are colorful backdrops of the buildings at all hours of the day. For more photos of Miami Beach visit my Flickr site.
Unfortunately, this weekend will not be a beach weekend for me. While I’ve been wanting to go for a while, and the surf is probably quite good with all the tropical weather out there, I’ll be at the Lakeridge Winery Grape Stomp Competition on Saturday. I’ve never done anything like this before so I’m excited.
