I could use a beignet (Ben-Yay) right now. They look delicious don’t they? No trip to New Orleans is complete without a stop at Cafe Du Monde. They are located in several locations in Louisiana, but the original is where you need to visit. Located at the end of the French Market since 1862 – just across from Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde makes for a perfect stop in the morning before shopping for breakfast.

The menu is fairly limited. Beignets, coffee, juice and that’s about it. But who needs anything else when you can have the most delicious powdered sugar donut in the world? Come enjoy a beignet (or three) with me…

The beignets come three at a time, and that’s plenty. It was quite busy on the day I visited, so you may need to vulture for a table. Watch those camera lenses since the powered sugar goes everywhere; On the tables, chairs, clothes and even on the city sidewalks.

I wish I knew how much powdered sugar Cafe Du Monde goes through in one day. Every plate comes with a glass of water, which you’ll need to help wash down the powdery piece of heaven. No matter how long you’re in town for, make some time to enjoy Cafe Du Monde. You’re tummy will be glad you did!

The official site for Cafe Du Monde can be found here. They’re also connected on Facebook.

How many beignets from Cafe du Monde have you had at one sitting? Leave your comment below!

  • hi, I work (server) at cafe Du Monde and I can give u some numbers on, but not on powered sugar (safe to say, it’s a lot!).
I’ve heard that Cafe Du Monde uses (approx) 300 gallons of milk per day, and that, when it’s busy, it brings in (approx.) $5,000 per hour.
It’s a privately owned (family) business that’s been in existance since 1862.

      Hey Mark,

Thanks for sharing some facts and figures with our readers. 300 Gallons of milk is what I go through in 6 years! I guess you need something to wash all that powdered sugar down! Had a great time at Cafe du Monde, next time, I’ll keep an eye out for you!

      Thanks for commenting!

Alan, thanks for the comment and the link. I just checked out your site. Great stuff! I’ll have to remember them for next time. I’ll pass it on via twitter.

Six beignets is too much for me. I was just about done after 2. Thanks for commenting and reading. I’ll see you out there!

  • Hey Ben — You are soooo right! Cafe du Monde is a MUST every time I’m in New Orleans! I pretty much max out at 6 beignets in a sitting though. My hot tip: get them to go and walk to the nearby Moonwalk and eat them while watching the boats go by on the river.

Also, if you’re still there, check out my must-do places for lunch and dinner in this blog post: http://alanrider.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/mardi-gras-mentoring-how-to-kill-time-between-parades/
