I’ve been officially out of communication for over a week. My most recent hotel didn’t have internet access, so I’m playing catch-up (last week’s posts were all pre-scheduled). So let’s rewind back to Sunday, May 23rd…
On Sunday, we checked into the Protea Hotel Shangri-La. It’s located in Limpopo Province, a 2 hour drive from Johannesburg. We arrived at 1230 P.M. and were told we had to wait for 2 P.M. to get into our room.
No problem, we had lunch.
After lunch we were shown our room, which was in the back corner of the hotel complex. Our rooms had an exterior entry through folding glass doors and faced the woods. Even during daylight you felt a bit like you were on the outskirts of the property.
I have a vivid imagination. I always have. So as night fell, images of monsters, murderers and ghosts filled my head. I awoke from a nap ready to grab some food. It was then that I realized I was all alone.
How alone? See for yourself in this YouTube Video:
So my biggest question was, “Why, if we were the only people staying at the hotel for the night did we have to wait until 2 P.M. for our room, and more importantly, why were were given the absolute worst rooms in the facility?”
Obviously I survived the night, but not before locking every door and window to my room and closing every blind.
I’ll never stay there again.

Ben,that was an Academy Award performance(lol),glad you are safe and sound.
We did look into changing rooms, but it was getting late and what was shown to us, did not have a shower – only a tub. So we opted to stay put. The room was comfortable, but the environment unsettling.
